Kampala Taxi Drivers On Strike
Over 60 taxi drivers whose cars were impounded for not remitting monthly dues to Kampala City Council Authority (have stormed Mayor Erias Lukwago’s residence along Sezibwa Road in Nakasero, Kampala.
The protesting drivers have asked KCCA to either release their vehicles unconditionally or hell breaks loose.
Police have deployed heavily in Nakasero to maintain law and order, also considering that Lukwago’s residence is just a few metres away from the State Lodge.
The taxi drivers claim it was improper for police and KCCA to impound their only source of revenue simply because of falling short of raising the monthly Shs120, 000 fees.
They further argue that this fee is exorbitant and exploitative.
More details will be posted as events unfold.
