Kampala Building Collapses, 2 Killed

A building under construction along Lugogo by-pass in Kampala has caved in, killing two workers, police has said.

The building was being erected by Complant Construction, a Chinese company.  

One of the deceased has been identified as Peter Mawejje.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Ibin Ssenkumbi confirmed the incident which occured at 4:22pm. He said only one person has been recovered from the rubble.

“We suspect that two people were buried by the debris,” Ssenkumbi told Chimpreports.com news desk.

“Investigations into the cause of this accident are underway. We have sent a rescue team to help on recovering the victims,” he added.

The Uganda police fire brigade is also at the scene to control possible outbreak of fire.

This is the latest incident in a wave of collapsing buildings in the city.
