Storm In Bukoto South As DP Accuse Nsambu Of Voter Bribery

Tension is rising in Bukoto South with opposition Democratic Party (DP) stepping up a kind of rhetoric that could lead toward the rupture of peace in the forthcoming by-elections.

Kalungu West MP Joseph Sewungu on Tuesday sternly warned candidate Alintuma Nsambu and his supporters of grave consequences if they continue bribing voters.

“We have reports that Nsambu has resorted to bribing people for votes with money and gifts because he knows he is unpopular. If he doesn’t stop, there will be fire,” he threatened.

“Whether Nsambu dishes out money or not, the DP candidate Mathias Nsubuga must win the by-election,” he told press at the party headquarters in Kampala.

He added that all DP top shots would soon pour into the area to campaign for their candidate and “protect Nsubuga’s vote from being rigged.”

“And after winning this Parliamentary seat, we will then report all the electoral malpractices to the courts of law,” he noted.

He cautioned the electoral commission against supporting Nsambu.

“They must create a smooth and lawful running of the campaigns,” said Sewungu.

The DP legislator further said IGP Lt. Gen. Kale Kayihura should start deploying police personnel in the area lest the situation would explode.

Uganda has witnessed violent clashes between supporters of rival candidates in the recent by-elections especially in Jinja East, Luweero and Ishaka-Bushenyi Municipality.

Court recently kicked out Muyanja Mbabali as Bukoto South MP over inadequate academic qualifications.
