Police Block Kampala Gay Meeting
Kampala Police have Monday sealed off Esella Country Hotel in Najjera II, a Kampala suburb, where several gay activists were attending a secret workshop.
Information obtained indicates that Ethics Minister Simon Lokodo had earlier ordered police to detain them for holding an illegal meeting.
The activists chose to lock up their doors to one of the halls to elude arrest.
Homosexuality in Uganda is illegal.
Lokodo recently warned hotel proprietors who collude with promoters of homosexuality would face the full wrath of the law.
The minister’s warning came in the wake of a gay activists’ workshop on the shores of Lake victoria that riled government officials.
Parliament is planning to pass a Bill that will see convicts of aggravated homosexuality are severely penalized.
