Tension High As KCCA Storm Old Taxi Park
Reports coming in indicate that Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) personnel have stormed Old Taxi Park in a bid to recover Shs120, 000 monthly dues from adamant taxi drivers.
KCCA has blocked all park entrances with chains, threatening to permanently lock the park until all arrears are paid.
The city authority claims most taxi drivers have vehemently refused to remit dues for the month of April.
Police deployed heavily to avoid violence.
The chairman Drivers and Conductors Association (DACA) Mustafa Mayambala accused KCCA boss Jennifer Musisi of intentionally refusing to count all the taxis in the taxi parks.
“This is Musisi's trick of embezzling dues collected because she just comes up and announces that this is the amount collected from the taxis but the question remains from how many taxis?” wondered Mustafa.
The taxi drivers and conductors dismantled chains put on entrances to the Park.
Mustafa also accused Musisi of sending her men to the park yet the there is a dispute over the Shs120,000 charge pending in Court.
Mustafa said the amount of money that has been approved by the parliament is only 20,000 not 120,000 that Musisi is demanding.
He, however, said they are ready to pay any amount as long as it is passed by the Parliament.
Mustafa advised President Museveni to critically examine the operations of Musisi, sayinh her motive is to fail the common man’s survival in the city.
