Plain textGen. Kiir Warns Bashir Against Arming South Rebels
The authorities in Khartoum have sentenced a businessman for ten years for exporting goods to the Republic of South Sudan.
While speaking at the occasion to mark Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army day Wednesday, President Salva Kiir Mayardit said Khartoum has issued a shoot order of anybody along its borders with South Sudan found bringing goods across to South Sudan.
Sudan closed its borders with South Sudan soon after the independence of South Sudan on 9th July last year stopping all goods from coming to the South Sudan.
“Before yesterday a businessman in Khartoum has been sentenced to ten years allegedly for supplying goods to South Sudan. They are killing people at the border who try to cross with their goods to South Sudan”, said President Kiir.
President Kiir stressed that the NCP-led government in Khartoum is not happy with South Sudan’s independence and is doing everything in their powers to fail South Sudan.
President Kiir said Khartoum still continues to arm South Sudanese to kill each other.
“Bashir is denying that he is not training any South Sudanese militias. Today with us is a Brigadier General John Duiet and General James Duoth who were equipped by Khartoum to fight South Sudan,” he said.
He added that the two came with a big number of forces and equipment from Khartoum.
He said Khartoum’s mission was for the force to close the borders with Ethiopia where South Sudan gets some of its goods and services.
President Kiir told thousands of the people who gathered at John Garang Mausoleum in Juba that the group is welcome to rejoin their families and that they should join hands in developing the country.
“Khartoum should know that the old days of using Southerners to fighter Southerners is over” he said.
He called on all Southerners to concentrate on the challenges of building the new nation of South Sudan.
“We need good hospitals; we need clear water, electricity, education, mention it. Nobody will come to build these for us, we must work to develop this country,” he said.
The President called on the youth to engage in agriculture. He said people should forget of the culture of being fed.
He said most people still suffer from the war syndrome where they got free food.
Kiir said the youth should take advantage of the vast fertile agricultural land to engage in farming.
Meanwhile, Pagan Amun, the SPLM Secretary General who is also the South Sudan’s chief negotiator on the post independence issues with Sudan, called on Southerners to revisit their past in order to face the what he said are “short lived” problems.
“When SPLM/A took up arms against the oppressive elements in Khartoum, nobody believed that they were going to win; that ended with the signing of the CPA in 2005.”
Pagan further stated some people said the CPA was going to be like Pashoda agreement, Addis Ababa agreement.
“We proved them wrong with the referendum on the 9th of January 2011 that brought that tall flag you are seeing up there,” he said.
Pagan said a lot has happened since 2005 and children enrolment to school has increased from 20 percent in 2005 to 60 percent, over 200 kilometres of tarmac roads in Juba, Bentiu,Malakal have been built.
