ARIONG MURDER: Besigye, Lukwago Trial Date Set
11:00pm: Magistrate Kayizi sets June 26 as date when the trial will kick off. Prosecution says they have completed investigations into the matter.
9:30am: Col. Kizza Besigye and other 14 opposition members charged with holding an illegal assembly in which a police officer lost his life, will on Wednesday morning appear before court.
The FDC leader, Kampala Mayor Erias Lukwago, Hon. Nabillah Naggayi, Ingrid Turinawe and Hajji Munyagwa among others reportedly organized a political rally in March in Kampala in which officer John Bosco Ariong died.
They are expected before trial Magistrate Mary Kayinza at Buganda Road court at 9:00am.
Other nine opposition supporters separately charged over the murder of Ariong and remanded at Luzira prison are also expected at the same court today.
The suspects are accused of holding an unlawful assembly, leading to death of Ariong; injuring police officers Wabwire and Julius Olweny and also disturbance of peace and security in Kampala.
The politicians deny the charges.
Meanwhile, security has been tightened especially at the Constitutional Square ahead of the trial.
