Kayihura: Police Did Not Quiz Mbabazi

The Inspector General of Police Lt. Gen. Kale Kayihura has vehemently denied reports that he led a team of cops that quizzed Premier Amama Mbabazi on Saturday over undeclared NRM money.

Kayihura on Monday told press in Kampala the explosive story carried by some sections of the media is fictitious.

He threatened to arrest the authors of the story, saying such falsehoods damage reputations of high profile government officials.

“I am going to summon media houses’ representatives for questioning over this story. It’s false. On the day they claim I quizzed Mbabazi I was not even in Kampala. I was in Masaka,” says Kayihura.

A Ugandan daily today reported that Mbabazi was on Saturday asked by the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) to record a statement with police as inquiries into unaccounted for party funds began.

“Sources within police say the interrogation took place at his office on Post Office building and lasted about four hours. In attendance was Inspector General of Police Kale Kayihura, CID boss Grace Akullo and two other senior detectives,” reads part of the disputed story.

“Sources further said at the centre of investigations are allegations that Mr Mbabazi received large sums of money meant for the NRM, but he did not declare the donations to the party.”
