Thursday: Government has resolved to accord departed Prof. Senteza Kajubi an official burial on Saturday in recognition of his contribution to Uganda.

Information Minister Mary Karooro Okurut says the decision is in view of the fact that Prof. Kajubi falls in the category of personalities whose contribution has brought honour to the country.

“As most of us are aware, over the years, the late Professor Kajubi played critical roles in in the development of the education sector and academics generally in Makerere, Kyambogo and Nkumba Universities,” says Okurut.

The giant academic passed away on Monday at his home in Bugolobi, a Kampala suburb.

Okurut now says Government will meet the burial expenses and the former Makerere University Vice Chancellor’s body will lie in state for public viewing and signing of the condolence book.

Okurut further notes government will be officially represented at the funeral and Senteza’s body will be transported in an official hearse to his final resting place.

Government will also ensure existence of official pallbearers for the casket.

Okurut also says government has constituted a cabinet subcommittee to work with the family on the burial programme.

It comprises Hon. Wilson Muruli Mukasa (Minister in charge of the Presidency), Karooro Okurut, Hon. Sezi Mbaguta (Minister of State, Public Service), and Hon. Rukia Nakadama (Minister of State, Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development.)

“Government will continue to update the public on the subsequent arrangements,’ says Okurut.
