Special Forces Arrest Journalist At Janet’s Function
Radio West Scribe Perez Rumanzi has been arrested by Special Forces Group (SFG) over suspicious movements at a function presided over by First Lady Janet Museveni.
It all started on Sunday with SFG blocking Rumanzi from accessing South Ankole Diocese Synod at Kyamate Cathedral in Ntungamo where Janet was the chief guest.
Janet was presiding over the installing of the Diocese’s new members.
According to Chimp Corps, SFG commanders told Rumanzi he would not access the venue with his camera.
Despite feeling embarrassed, Rumanzi obeyed the instructions thus taking his camera to a neighbouring shop.
He, however, returned with a bad mood, thus quarreling with SFG bosses.
According to SFG officers, Rumanzi was not accredited to cover the function. He also breached security procedures by trying to break Janet’s security ring.
Angered by his determination to cover the event and quarrelsomeness, SFG arrested and handed Rumanzi to police for detention.
By Sunday evening, the journalist was still behind bars at Ntungamo police station.
The District Police Commander Francis Kabera says Rumanzi is likely to face charges of terrorism.
However, our Corp in Ntungamo contacted SFG spokesperson Edison Kwesiga who said Rumanzi would be counseled.
