Bukenya Collapses At Luzira
Secrets have emerged as to why prison officials yesterday denied Buganda MPs a chance to take a glimpse at jailed former Vice President Gilbert Bukenya.
A source at Luzira prison has revealed that Bukenya briefly collapsed shortly after stepping at the university of understanding.
We are told a team of doctors from Mulago hospital was rushed to the facility to provide urgent treatment to the proffessor who had just recieved first aid at the sick bay.
After about three hours of unconsciousness, Bukenya was brought back to life.
"We feared the worst. Bukenya is diabetic. The lawyers have been told. They must secure his bail as soon as possible," said a source.
At that time when Buganda MPs stepped at the main gate, Bukenya had not yet fully recovered.
Lawyers claim Bukenya is ill and must go for treatment in Nairobi.
Meanwhile, Opposition leaders have reacted angrily at the incarceration of former VP Prof. Gilbert Bukenya.
JEEMA leader Hussein Kyanjo says Bukenya is being victimized since he had already fallen out of favour of the establishment. He says Bukenya is also being politically persecuted for being a Muganda.
The Uganda Federal Alliance (UFA) boss etty Olive Kamya says the manner in which Bukenya was arrested and remanded to Luzira Prison when others pinned in the saga such as Sam Kutesa and Amama Mbabazi are still at large, is mere witch hunt.
Bukenya was Monday jailed after cancellation of his bail earlier granted to him in June.
He is accused of causing a loss of shs6.5 billion after canceling international bidding for BMW cars earmarked for the Chogm delegates.
Kamya argues “Mahogany” is being persecuted by NRM officials who are bent on bringing down his political career.
Fdc’s Nandala Mafabi says other “sharks” named in the Chogm fracas should be arrested and jailed as well if the war against corruption is to make any sense.
"Jailing Bukenya alone is selective prosecution," he said.
