Chimpreports.com-Uganda News: Police Regrets Kololo School Teargas Incident Police Regrets Kololo School Teargas Incident ================================================================================ Nicholas Mwesigwa on 18/10/2011 09:54:00 Police has today regretted lobbying a teargas canister into Kololo high School yesterday that left dozens of kids suffocated. They were rushed to Mulago hospital. “While dispersing walk-to-work rioters at Kiseka market, the Anti-riot tear gas canister mistakenly landed into the compound of Kololo High School which happens to be close to the area of confrontation. About 20 students got affected by the tear gas and were rushed to Mulago hospital for medical attention,” Police publicist Judith Nabakooba says. “We would like to sincerely regret the incident which caused tension and inconvenienced the students, school administration and innocent people. It was not our intention to launch tear gas into the school compound. We talked to the school leaders and followed up the affected students to ascertain whether they received proper medication. Certainly, the effect of the tear gas was contained and all the students were discharged by evening time yesterday,” she adds. “Our intention was not to hurt innocent students or children. That was the reason why the Police and other organizations which care about children’s matters had pleaded to the A4C and FDC leader Col. Kiza Besigye not to go ahead with their planned demonstration,” Nabakooba says. Adding: “Therefore, we extend our apology to the school administration and everybody who was affected by the unfortunate incident in one way or the other.”
