Now working on her solo album, Mya describes herself as talkative, active and friendly. Mya went to Kampala Parents School, St.Lawrence Citizen’s High School and later Aptec where she pursued a course in Computer Graphics. She describes her music as vulgar which is a mixture of all kinds of zuok, Urban and Reggae.

Mya has always had the heart for music: “I always wanted to join the choir at school but they said you had to be saved and that kind of arrogance put me off”, the sexy artiste recounts. Although she wasn’t able to fully take part in singing at school, Mya always participated in dance and drama.

"I really loved music but my dad referred to it as noise. Sometimes my sisters would go out and make noise upon return," she laughs. Mya was really excited about music that she spent the better part of her childhood watching music videos and imitating artistes.

“By then there was only Lingala and music by Chaka Chaka and Charamwana. “Those were my first dance strokes i learned”, she adds.

Ironically, Mya never really thought she would become a singer.

"I wasn’t an audience singer. I was very comfortable dancing  than singing but eventually, with time, I started singing," Mya recounts.

She also attributes her singing career to the many opportunities life has offered her.

Mya joined the Combat Dance Group under Obsessions with Michael and Natasha in 2005. This helped her gain some recognition.

She also did a project with the obsessions in 2007. Her big breakthrough was when she was called to cover for Cindy and later permanently joined  the popular Blue 3 girl band. "That’s how I got into the music industry,“ she explains.

She is also really happy about her solo career. "I knew it wasn’t going to be easy but am surprised it’s worked out”, she adds. Currently Mya’s new song “Shake yo Chakolo” is being played on some of the television stations.

According to her, the song is about fun which people can relate to. "It encourages my audience to shake off all their stress," says Mya.

Just like anybody else, Mya has faced a couple of challenges. She finds it hard balancing her private life and work.

"Everyone wants to know who you are dating and it's very uncomfortable. When you tell people about your private life you don’t have anything left for yourself,” says Mya.

Although Mya has faced criticism from the public about her capability to sing, it  hasn’t brought  down her spirit.
