President Lambasts Anti-Development Groups
President Yoweri Museveni has strongly criticized some groups in the Ugandan society especially those whose avowed agenda is merely to oppose the development programmes of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Government.
He said that such elements should really check their consciences because their actions of frustrating mass development programmes, like industrialization, that are geared towards the promotion of the welfare and transformation of society is not only a disservice to the country but also a betrayal of the aspirations of wananchi themselves.
The President, therefore, called on leaders at all levels in the country, to join hands with the government and ensure the implementation of the pro-wananchi government programmes so that there is sustainable fight and eradication of household poverty.
He stressed the crucial role of leaders in educating the masses on the intensive use of small-scale land holdings profitably, through engaging in high value ventures, so that the wananchi are enabled to earn good income of at least Shs.20 million per year in order to get rid of household level poverty.
The President was on Monday passing out over 1000 cadres at Kahisa Primary School in Ruhaama County Ntungamo district in South Western Uganda.
He was accompanied by his wife Hon. Janet Museveni, who is also Karamoja Affairs Minister and MP for Ruhaama County.
Museveni advised the cadres to be good examples in their respective communities. He also asked them to love their country, Uganda and love one another, irrespective of one’s political or religious affiliation.
The President said that the NRM Party has distinguished itself from other parties because it puts love of the country ahead and its belief in national development through modern agriculture, industrialization and infrastructure building, among others, is all geared towards the total transformation of the Ugandan society from peasantry to a modern stage.
Museveni commended his wife and other leaders in Ntungamo district, for working together to ensure the development of the district.
He pledged support in the form of coffee seedlings, tea and cows for milk production as well as any other necessary support, to enable them improve further their household income.
Janet Museveni, on her part, congratulated the cadres upon their successful conclusion of their training and observed the course would go a long way in helping them to appreciate and address the challenges the grass-root people and their diverse communities face, particularly cases of theft and domestic violence.
She expressed optimism that such training undergone by cadres, would enable proper monitoring of numerous government programmes, such as the National Agricultural and Advisory Services (NAADS).
She highly commended all Ntungamo district leaders for their cooperation and team work that has enabled government programmes to reach out to the wanainchi.
Kajara County MP and also Ntungamo district NRM Chairman, Hon Steven Tashobya, saluted the First Lady for her invaluable contribution to the awakening of the people of not only Ruhaama but other constituencies and the country at large.
Ntungamo district LC5 Chairman, Mr. Singahakye, applauded the NRM government for the peace, security and good governance based on decentralization.
He noted that the arrangement has benefited the common people.
