POWER CRISIS: 'Gov't Must Buy Fuel For Thermal Stations'
Opposition FDC have called upon government to immediately procure large quantities of fuel for thermal power plants with the view of curbing the worsening load shedding in the country.
FDC publicist Wafula Oguttu said Aggreko thermal plant in Mutundwe should be supplied with fuel to resume power generation.
“Government must stop spending on unnecessary activities and secure fuel for thermal plants. The load shedding is seriously pushing people out of business,” Oguttu told press today Monday at party headquarters in Najjanankumbi.
“Hundreds of businessmen along Nasser and Nkrumah roads rely on consistent electricity supply to earn a living. Government must take this issue seriously,” Oguttu said.
The traders along the industrial streets a fortnight ago staged a demonstration to protest the increased load shedding.
Police used teargas and live bullets to disperse them.
Oguttu said once people choose to settle the matter on the streets, FDC would join them.
He said the issue of electricity is a national issue since most districts in Uganda are facing acute power shortage.
President Yoweri Museveni has since accused opposition of sabotaging the Bujagali dam project thus stalling the increase of power production.
