Igara East Member of Parliament Andrew Martial has Tuesday been recalled from the 10th parliament following a ruling by the Constitutional court.
Micheal Mawanda, a former MP of the said constituency – not satisfied with 2016 election results – petitioned authorities, citing malpractices.
According to Mawanda, there were irregularities in the voting, tallying and announcing of results like arithmetic variations on the result declaration forms, creation of non gazetted polling stations, ballot stuffing, intimidation, defamation by agents of his opponent and bribery.
The above, Mawanda claimed, influenced the outcome of the polling exercise.
The decision to throw out Martial from Parliament was reached by judges Egoda Ntende, Richard Buteera and new deputy chief justice Owiny Odolo.
Mawanda, who served the constituency for one term, was represented by lawyers Owen Muragira and company advocates and Frank Kandiho.
Mawanda is an independent NRM-leaning candidate, while Martial subscribes to the NRM Party.
In the contested general elections, Mawanda polled 15091 votes while Martial got 15983.
