The Electoral Commission (EC) has cautioned against unauthorized use of the Commission’s name and logo by the public and other electoral stakeholders which is likely to portray the body as partial and affect the management of the electoral process.

The International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) has moved its secretariat from Burundi’s capital Bujumbura to Zambia due to the persistent violence and instability within the East African country.

ICGLR is an intergovernmental organization of African countries in the Great lakes region with 12 member states including Burundi.

Insurgency in Burundi’s capital Bujumbura broke out weeks ago in protest of President Pierre Nkurunziza’s re-election, forcing some 200,000 people to flee the country seeking asylum. The government has since then cracked down on the opposition’s attempts to protest the situation.
