Presidential Hopeful Hon Amama Mbabazi as has been the case in the past three days, thumb held another successful rally in Luweero district, http://chopcult.com/wp-content/plugins/w3-total-cache/languages/images/secure.php where his nemesis and incumbent President Yoweri Museveni opened his campaign trail on Monday.
Speaking through a translator, http://concateme.com/plugins/editors/tinymce/fields/skins.php Hon Amama Mbabazi appealed to thousands of locals who ecstatically welcomed him in the district that has come to be known as the Mecca of the ruling National Resistance Movement.
Luweero is where the armed struggle that ushered in President Museveni and the current regime was birthed in the 1980s.
The vast majority of the population however, has remained disgruntled over the years for the unfulfilled promises that government made to them.
The peoples are still trapped in poverty, unemployed, underserved in social services while many of them who actively took part in the armed struggle have not been remunerated as promised by government.
Riding on some of these conditions, the former Prime Minister appealed to the locals to enable him take up the country’s topmost seat, promising to turn their lives around.
“How can people who fought for this freedom, the people who made it possible to have this government take 30 years without payment?” he said. “We must find money and put an end to this.”
“I thank the veterans who fought in the struggle for their great service. But I want to say this; no veteran in this country should suffer the indignity of having not been given what they are owed,” added Mbabazi.
The former NRM Secretary General also promised to turn Luweero town into a Municipality once elected into office.
“I know many places which are smaller than Luweero in population, which have less importance in terms of the history of this country, that have been turned into municipalities. I think Luweero should be a municipality,” he said to the cheering crowd.
Mbabazi, who has worked alongside President Museveni for as long as the NRM has been, promised to foil every possible plan to rig next year’s elections, noting that he has been in government long enough and understands all the tricks.
“People fear that even if they vote, their wishes might not be realized. I want to assure you today, that with my wealth of experience, I have the capacity to protect your vote.”
“And when we win, we have the capacity to protect that win and to take charge of government. That is why you need someone who can do that job,” he added.
