Jailed former Presidential Candidate for the Forum for Democratic Change party has told a group of visitors from his party that he is still President of the people of Uganda even behind bars.
Besigye was in May remanded on Treason charges in Luzira Prison after he declared himself president of the Republic of Uganda, site http://clothesthatwork.org/wp-content/plugins/the-events-calendar/src/tribe/template/embed.php before he held his own swearing in ceremony.
On Tuesday afternoon, http://comoconquistarumamina.com.br/wp-content/plugins/contact-form-7/admin/edit-contact-form.php a delegation of opposition leaders from FDC led by the Leader of Opposition Hon. Winnie Kiiza paid a visit to the former candidate in Luzira Prison.
According to one of the visitors and Buhweju Member of Parliament Hon Francis Mwijukye, http://clothesthatwork.org/wp-content/plugins/the-events-calendar/src/tribe/ajax/operations.php Dr Besigye is still in good spirits and is coping with the new environment.
Mwijukye says Besigye told the delegation that he is still the President of Uganda although he is in confinement.
“Dr. Besigye assured Ugandans that he is strong and that he has remained a president even in prison given the very many escorts that accompany him inside prison,” said Mwijukye.
After the visit, the opposition leaders held short prayers for their jailed colleague outside the Prison gates.
The visit comes in the midst of a misunderstanding between the FDC leadership at Najjanankumbi and a section of strong supporters of Dr Besigye, who are accusing party President Gen Mugisha Muntu, and the leader of Opposition Mrs Winnie Kiiza of sidelining them during the appointment of the Shadow cabinet recently.
The party however, yesterday described these squabbles as normal and healthy, and that those complaining will be allowed space to officially table their concerns.
