Police have arrested the commanders of Sunday’s deadly attack in Gulu in which a police officer and UPDF soldier were killed following a 30-minute gun battle that sent shock-waves across the country.
Police publicist Fred Enanga told ChimpReports in an exclusive interview on Tuesday that the capture was made possible after leakage of information from the group of attackers.

“His (truck driver) arrest led to the arrest of the other five (attackers) including the gang leaders on Gulu and Opit, more about ” he added.
He was uncomfortable revealing the identities of the suspects whom he said are now in police custody.
The Gulu attack was the deadliest in recent years since the end of the LRA war in Northern Uganda.
Police boss Gen Kale Kayihura said the attack appeared to be a rescue operation for one of the assailants’ colleagues, Dan Oola Odiya, the UPC Deputy Secretary for mobilization, in Dr Olara Otunnu’s faction.
“The suspect, it is alleged played a large role in facilitating attacks by unknown gunmen on Opit Army Detach, located at Opit trading centre, Lalogi sub-county, Gulu District, on the 27/05/2016, at around 2.30 am, where two people were killed, and 8 SMG Rifles plus 1 PK Machine gun were stolen,” said Kayihura at a press conference yesterday.
The police boss said after being overpowered, the attackers left behind 5 SMG Rifles, 1 PK Machine gun, an unspecified number of ammunitions and magazines, assortment of modern bows and arrows, and 1 Pick-up truck.
The guns included those that were stolen from Opit Army Detach.
Enanga did not disclose the charges which will be preferred against the arrested suspects.
During the Sunday attack, an Air Defense military officer, CPL Edema was killed while ASP Moses Masaba succumbed to gunshot wounds on Monday.
Another cop, PC Atimango Sunday as well as three UPDF officers that included; Major Komakech Jasper, S/SGT Kibuye Vincent and Pte Opoka Kilama Michael plus a civilian identified as Christine Aki were also injured.
Gen Kayihura said the town has been reinforced and is under security control.
“We also want to assure Ugandans that an intensive operation to track down the attackers was launched yesterday and is still ongoing. But as a nation, this attempted attack is a harsh reminder of a few individuals in our country who are motivated by criminal acts. At this stage we cannot characterize the attack as a rebel threat but a bunch of criminals on a rescue mission.”
