Gov’t to Take Over Mountains of the Moon University

The first lady and minister of Education Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni has urged public and private universities in the country to style-up and emphasize on quality teaching and relevance.

Mrs Museveni said, “I commend the administration and board of governors MMU for their good programs that are in line with government education policy of promoting science and technology and tailored at addressing the challenges of the region and country at large”.

She however asked the university administration to continue reviewing the programs if they are to produce students competing internationally.

“The number of universities have increased from 2 to 47 since the NRM government took over power but their impact may not be felt if these institutions  don’t emphasize on quality teaching and problem solving programs,” Said Mrs Museveni.

Hon. Miyingo in his speech argued the graduates that the gates of the East African Community (EAC) are open for them but this requires serious competition and quality in produce and service delivery.

He asked the graduates to pursue further studies because the 21st century needs well qualified but skilled and competitive work force.

He revealed that government has taken over MMU as public university and will started receiving funding next financial year but this requires the support of both the district leaders, the community and university administrators.
