State Minister of Health (Primary Health Care), abortion http://comoconquistarumamina.com.br/wp-admin/includes/class-wp-posts-list-table.php Sarah Opendi has undertaken to accelerate enactment of the Food Safety and Alcohol policy that will help regulate consumption of alcohol in the country.

While launching the National Burden of Foodborne Diseases pilot study report at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala, http://chernichovsky.com/wp-admin/includes/menu.php Opendi said alcohol would have to be regulated like any other food, because it is actually food.

“All along, I didn’t know that alcohol was food but since we currently don’t have a food safety law, I hope before the end of my mandate at the Ministry expires, I will make sure that we have a food safety and alcohol policy enacted,” Opendi observed.

Opendi said that the report would help formulate several policies that will later culminate in a law that will homogenize consumption of alcohol in the country.

She expressed dismay at common reports indicating that alcohol has penetrated schools and is being misused by students and even pupils.

According to research, Uganda leads all African countries in alcohol consumption and ranked number eight which is largely due to a rampant trade in illegally made rotgut.

The launch of the report was one of the commemoration ceremonies to mark the World Health Day which will be celebrated on April 9th in Agago district under the theme: “Food Safety for Good Health”.

The report indicates that foodborne illnesses are recognized as a significant public health challenge in the country.

Data from the Health Information Management System (HMIS) of the Ministry of Health reveals that all the different types of foodborne illnesses are endemic in Uganda and occur with almost the same frequency year after year.

The available data demonstrates that over 14 percent of all diseases treated each year are due to foodborne related illnesses. These include Cholera, Dysentery, acute non-bloody diarrhea, persistent non-bloody diarrhea, typhoid, paratyphoid fevers and recently Hepatitis E.
