All business technical, vocational and education training institutions will stop training their students in certificate courses for one year effective January 2018, Minister of Education Janet Museveni has said.
Speaking at the release of May/June 2017 examinations results for certificate and diploma programmes in Technical, Business and specialized institutions yesterday, Janet said all certificate programmes will now be taking two years.
“All post Ordinary level certificate programmes in Business technical, vocational and education training sub-sector must take a teaching duration of two years and be assessed nationally,” she said.
She also said universities and tertiary institutions must complete admissions by end of June every year to allow students ample time to report to new institutions and allow parents enough time to put together resources needed to take back their children to school.
There was a slight improvement in performance for technical examinations, from 71 percent in 2016 to 71.4 in 2017.
At least 1,834 (28.6 per cent) candidates failed the exams and have been asked to repeat while results for 32 candidates were withheld over malpractice.
