Government Commits to Cutting Energy Costs

The State Minister for Housing, visit web Planning and Urban Development Chris Baryomunsi has revealed government’s plans to bring down the costs of energy to make it more affordable to the people.

The Minister revealed yesterday that government intends to diversify the different types of energy resources from solar energy, stuff Geothamo energy and others to help bring down the costs of energy and above all provide more options to the users.

“We want to enable Ugandans afford energy, information pills and as government we want to see every household with electricity, which can be achieved since we have many options. We only have to make it affordable for our people” he said.

The minister made the revelation while addressing the media at a five day workshop held at Victoria University with the focus on promoting the access to clean energy cities despite the high rates of urbanization visa vie the growing need for service delivery and other challenges.

Uganda’s Electricity consumption is still as low as 1.4 percent according to Energypedia, about 90% of the total primary energy consumption is generated through biomass, which can be separated in firewood (78.6%), charcoal (5.6%) and crop residues (4.7%)

The work shop began on Monday and will end on Friday with Victoria University as the host but in conjunction with Uganda Martyrs University and other sub-Saharan African partners.
