The UPDF Chief of Defence Forces, Gen David Muhoozi on Wednesday hosted a Military delegation from the South African National Defence Forces (SANDF) at Oliver Reginald Tambo School of Leadership in Kaweweta, Nakaseke District.
The South African Military delegation led by Chief of Staff, Lt Gen VR Masondo visited Kaweweta to appreciate and remind themselves of the role played by anti-apartheid fighters and numerous sacrifices made by Uganda as one of the frontline states in the independence struggle for the Republic of South Africa.
The visitors laid a wreath on the tombs of their fallen comrades and had a guided tour of the School’s artifacts, Oliver Reginald Tambo Great Hall, Oliver Reginald Tambo Primary School as well as the hospital at the Leadership School which were constructed in honour of Military Cooperation with South African National Defence Force.
“We thank the Government of Uganda for enormous and numerous contributions towards reinstating peace and stability in the region and promise to work hard in the pursuance of strengthening bilateral Defence Relations with Uganda,” Lt Gen Masondo said.
Gen Muhoozi, lauded the SANDF team for honouring their history and further urged them not to forget their roots.
African National Congress (ANC) fighters trained at Kaweweta during the anti – apartheid struggle.
Kaweweta remains one of the historical and Memorial sites for ANC fallen heroes who died while undergoing training in support of the liberation of South Africa from whites’ domination.
