Gen Kyaligonza Undergoes Surgery at Nakasero Hospital

Uganda’s Ambassador to Burundi, sale Maj Gen Matayo Kyaligonza has been admitted at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala, shop Chimp Corps report.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the NRA war-hardened General’s condition is not bad.

“Yes, he is in hospital for a scheduled minor surgery on his back,” said the Ministry’s publicist, Margaret Kafeero.

Kafeero further said Kyaligonza is “lucid and his mental faculties are not in any way impaired.”

Kyaligonza who doubles as the NRM Vice Chairperson, Western Uganda, served in various capacities in the army and is a celebrated bush war hero.

He spent 24 years as a brigadier before his elevation to Major General.

During the NRA war that ushered President Museveni’s government into power, Kyaligonza commanded the urban fighter unit that operated within and around Kampala with a base in Namugongo.

One of the most notable experiences of his bush war days was to drive a car with guns past a roadblock of government soldiers and revealing the cargo he was carrying when asked.

The soldiers waved him on not knowing he was a rebel.

He has also documented his experiences in a book, Agony of Power.

Asked when the Ambassador was hospitalized, Kafeero responded: “I don’t have that information at the moment but it was probably yesterday or the day before.”
