FWEL: Muteesa Host Revamped Ajax Queens in Season Opener

There is no doubt that women’s football in Uganda has taken great strides in terms of development and growth.

From scratches in the 90s when the late Rebecca Kazibwe popularly known as Maama Becca pioneered its start to present where there is evident growth, the game has slowly started to entrench itself into the society.

And with a regular season played, several girls/women have gotten the chance to prove their talent.

The fourth edition of the Fufa Women elite league officially gets underway this Saturday with an epic showdown between Muteesa I Royal University and Ajax Queens.

Muteesa host Ajax Queens at Wankuluku with both sides seemingly on equal footing as far as their preparations prior to the season are concerned.

The University side have been in serious training for more than a month and beefed up their squad with several new arrivals.

Key among them is lanky forward Favour Nambatya who comes to Muteesa with a lot of experience and winning mentality from Kawempe Muslim.

The other signing is Caroline Anyango who is adept at playing both as a left back and a winger.

On the hand, Ajax Queens have equally bolstered their squad with eight new players such as Phiona Nabumba, Gloria Ayikol and Pamela Nakayondo among others.

The Bulenga based side also has a new coaching staff with Michael Natima as head coach.

Natima will be facing his former employers Muteesa who he coached in 2015.

However, he remains unfazed ahead of the game and believes his team is in good shape.

” It is a tricky fixture for us but we are prepared and ready to take them on,” he said.

Kawempe Muslim are the defending champions and have won all the last three editions
