FWEL: Kawempe Defeat 10-Man Muteesa to Cement Lead at The Top

Kawempe Muslim extended their perfect run to six straight wins after an emphatic victory against Muteesa I Royal University.

Goals from Favour Nambatya and Juliet Nalukenge in the first half ensured the defending champions earned maximum points in the game played at the Valley ground in Kawempe on Tuesday.

Muteesa finished with a player less after defender Fatuma Nandawula was given matching orders by centre referee Anna Akoyi for retaliation towards the end of the first half.

Kawempe dominated proceedings right from the start and Favour Nambatya gave the hosts an early lead heading home Hasifa Nassuna’s cross from a free kick in the 6th minute.

Youngster Juliet Nalukenge doubled the lead for the hosts at the half hour mark tapping home from close range Favour Nambatya’s low cross.

Nandawula was sent off with a minute to half time after head batting Kawempe’s Tracy Akiror.

Goalscorer Favour Nambatya who had suffered a cut on her eye midway through the first half was replaced by Apon Sharon after the interval.

Muteesa University head coach made two changes at the hour mark introducing goalkeeper Nakaziro Daizy and striker Namataka Betty.

Despite playing with 10 players, the visitors put up a fight after recess with the best chance falling to Namataka but her effort ricocheted off the base of the post to deny her.

The result means Kawempe Muslim stretch their lead at the summit of Elizabeth group with 18 points in 6 games while Muteesa remain 3rd on 12 points.
