With the 2016/17 edging towards the climax, more about the battle to determine the winner of the Fufa Women Elite league has become tight.
The regular season ended over the weekend and four teams out of the possible 14 will be battling to find out this year’s winner with the final slated for 4th June.
Defending champions, Kawempe Muslim, UCU Lady Cardinals, Uganda Martyrs High School, Lubaga and Olila SS are the four teams that reached this year’s playoff stage.
UCU Lady Cardinals vs Uganda Martyrs
UCU are into playoffs for the second successive time. The university side reached the playoffs last season but lost 1-0 to eventual winners Kawempe Muslim.
On the other Uganda Martyrs are into their maiden final. The Lubaga Based school has been in scintillating form yet playing in the league for the first time.
UCU skipper Moreen Kinavudori who has scored 14 goals this season is confident her team will knockout Uganda Martyrs and advance to the finals.
“We are quite prepared and set for the final. It will not be an easy game but the fact that we are playing at this stage for the second time, I believe we have more experience than Uganda Martyrs,” she confidently said.
Uganda Martyrs topped Victoria group with 28 points, losing just one game while UCU on the other hand finished second in Elizabeth group on 23.
Kawempe Muslim vs Olila Women FC
Olila Women’s football club who hail from Soroti district are the other team that took the league by storm. After finishing bottom of the table last season with just 8 points, the team went on a spending spree recruiting several players and will be playing in the playoffs for their first time.
They take on overwhelming favorites and defending champions Kawempe Muslim who have won all the previous two editions.
Kawempe under the tutorship of Ayub Kalifa are the only side to end the regular season with maximum points collecting 36 pointsa in the 12 games played.
With reigning best female player, Hasifah Nassuna leading the way with 24 goals this season, Kawempe will be seeking for their third consecutive final and trophy.
The winners in either semifinal will square off in the final scheduled for Sunday, 4th June.
