There was drama at Jinja Municipal Council offices when officials fled their offices over the Inspector of Government’s visit.
Fauzat Mariam Wangadya the Deputy Inspector General of Government (IGG) was scheduled to hold a meeting with the Jinja district and Jinja municipal officials including political leaders and civil
servants following numerous complaints of corruption in the two government entities.
The first meeting with district authorities was successful and well attended however hell broke loose when she ascended down to the adjacent Jinja town Hall.
Wangadya was only welcomed by empty seats after all the municipal council officials disappeared in
thin air except the cleaner who welcomed the high profile officials.
It took almost 30 minutes before deputy town clerk Jophram Waidhuba showed up while other officers in the municipality were watching from a distance.
A few minutes later, visit web three more officials including the deputy mayor Medius Asiimwe showed up before thevisibly angery deputy IGG Postponed the meeting saying she could not leave her office in Kampala to come and address empty chairs.
“I was scheduled to hold two meetings following numerous complaints of high corruption cases, stuff land grabbing, dosage fake academic documents, absenteeism, non accountability, shoddy work and nepotism in the two entities but the municipal officials did not turn-up. This does not however exonerate them because I will come again” Wangadya said.
She said that nothing shall deter the office of the Inspector General of Government from investigating all cases reported and bringing culprits to book.
Ms Wangadya who ranked Jinja as the headquarters of corruption in the country followed by Kampala expressed disappointment with the kind of reception she got at town hall and cautioned them not to risk again.
Later, the deputy mayor Asiimwe Medius labored to explain to the deputy IGG why the municipal officials did not attend the meeting saying they were attending the world environmental day with national celebrations being held in Mpumudde division still in Jinja municipal council.
