After losing the Fufa Women elite league title in terrible fashion last week, buy Uganda Christian University (UCU) Lady Cardinals have yet another opportunity to claim silverware this season.
The University side host Olila Women’s football club this Friday in Mukono in the Fufa Women’s cup semifinal and the hopes are high that they will reach the finals and go on to win the title.
Team captain, click Maureen Kinavudori believes they have put the defeat to Kawempe behind and are ready to take on Olila.
“It was painful the way we lost in the final but that is behind us for now, we are quite aware of what is at stake and we are prepared for the challenge,” she said before asserting that she expect a tough challenge from Olila.
“They are a good team with a couple of talented players and I expect a tough challenge from them but we are equally a good side and we shall play our best,” Kinavudori added.
Olila on the other hand finished fourth in the league in their first time in the playoffs and crafty midfielder Rita Nabossa believes this could spur them ahead of the encounter against UCU Lady Cardinals.
“We probably wished to be in the finals but again we cannot frown on finishing fourth. This will motivate us more going into the game against UCU,” She noted.
Already, Gafford Ladies are into the finals after defeating Muteesa I Royal University 2-1 on Thursday and now await the winner between UCU and Olila.
The final of the inaugural women’s cup is scheduled to take place on 18th June at the Madibira playground in Busia district.
