Kasese is affected by landslides in rainy season

Four people from the same family were killed and two others survived with severe injuries in Bundibugyo district landslides over the weekend.

The injured Margaret Itungu and one Masereka were admitted at Bundibugyo hospital in critical condition while the deceased were retrieved and will be laid to rest on Tuesday.

According to the District Police Commander Bundibugyo DPC Martin Tukamuhebwa, ed http://center4research.org/wp-includes/class-wp-user.php the landslides occurred on Sunday night t around 8:00pm following a heavy downpour in the high areas of Bundibugyo.

He says the incident occurred in Kasanji II zone in Kasanji parish, Ndugutu Sub County.

The DPC says the heavy down pour caused landsides that swept away the house of the same family members and destroyed their gardens.

DPC Tukahebwa warned the residents on the steep slopes to vacate and move in the low land areas because they expect more rains as the rainy season sets in.

Tom Ndyanabo the Red Cross manager Bundibugyo who led the rescue says they have embarked on sensitizing people to move to low areas because more rains are setting in and are likely to cause more havoc.

He said the calamity affected one family.
