First Lady Janet to Launch Mama Kits Football Tourney

In many hospitals around the country, expectant mothers are turned away when they cant afford their own Mama Kits

The 2015 Eskom Jinja Golf tournament is already underway with 30 gross and professional players taking to the course at the shores of Lake Victoria.

The competition was teed off with the players beginning with 18-holes and will continue in the afternoon with the final half to make it 36-hole.

The competition is an annual event organized by the Jinja club and sponsored by Eskom Uganda limited.

Eskom has sponsored this year’s edition to a tune of Shs100m on top of giving the overall winner a full year sponsorship.

The amateur participants will play 18-holes on Saturday from morning before the closing ceremony later in the evening.

Eskom sponsors the event as part of the CSR to the community around and also to promote talent in the country.

“The promotion of Golf and our sport to Jinja Golf club is one of the many ways Eskom exhibits its shared value with the community in which we operate. We are also promoting talent. Two of our previous winners were a part of the Africa Zone VI challenge,” Ms. Nokwanda, the outgoing managing director of Eskom Uganda explains.

First Lady Janet Museveni is expected in Kabale district on Monday to officiate at the launch of the first female football tournament aimed at sensitizing the community about maternal health.

The tournament will feature selected ladies football teams from within the District.

He added that the project is a continuation of the government’s efforts to make maternal health services accessible and affordable to women in Uganda.

“During the tournament, http://chienyenthinh.com/components/com_jshopping/lang/ru-ru.php we shall be donating mama kits and mosquito nets to pregnant women, in selected health centers in the District as well as  holding cervical cancer screening  in  Kabale Municipality,’’ Gumisiriza told revealed.

A Mama Kit is an all-in-one kit that contains everything needed to help provide a clean and safe delivery.

In order to give birth in most hospitals or clinics in Uganda, mother must purchase all of the necessary supplies and bring them with them.  If you do not have the supplies you will often be turned away.

In March this year, Opposition Forum for Democratic Change [FDC]’s women’s league launched a similar program aimed at distributing mama kits to expectant mothers around the country, but the exercise was hampered by insufficient resources.

The one week project in Kabale District will also sensitize young girls and boys about the dangers associated with early marriages.

The tournament and all the activities are being sponsored by a consortium of local community based organizations that include among others, Kadome, Kabale Children rehabilitation Center AICO, Kabale District Local Government and Marie Stopes.

The guest of honor at the launch to be held at Kabale Stadium, Mrs Museveni is the National Patron for Mama Kit Uganda.
