Fika Salaama: 60 Bus Passengers Stranded as Police Arrest Driver


A total of sixty seven passengers have been left stranded after police arrested the driver of the bus they were travelling in.

The incident happened at Butanza trading center in Luweero district along the Kampala – Gulu highway when traffic police officers who are part of the operation ‘Fika Salama’ intercepted a Gaaga bus registration number UAP 763H for overtaking in a prohibited area after.

According to the Luweero District Traffic Officer Willy Abaha, more about the driver of the bus plying the Kampala -Lira route identified as Hassan Moshi was apprehended for breaking traffic rules and regulations.

“He has been charged with reckless driving and will appear in court any time, buy more about ” Abaha said adding that this was intended to prevent him from causing other accidents in the road.

However, this turned out to be a bad day for the 67 passengers aboard the bus who were left stranded after the driver had been arrested.

On July,2, tragedy befell the people of Kampiringisa  along Masaka road  after an accident involving a Toyota Noah, taxis and trailer claimed over 20 people.

The police and Uganda National Roads Authority have since launched the operation ‘Fiika Salama’ a Kiswahili statement for ’reach safely ‘ along the major highways in the country in a bid to curb on these accidents.
