FDC Candidate Apollo Kantinti will not cast his ballot in the Kyadondo East elections as he is not a registered voter of the constituency, Chimp Corps report.

It emerged Thursday that Kantinti was a registered voter but in Mukono.

According to Chris Kaheru, an official at Citizens’ Coalition for Electoral Democracy in Uganda (CCEDU), Kantinti’s name was never transferred from Mukono where he registered as a voter.

Electoral Commission spokesperson Jotham Taremwa wondered why Kantinti did not apply to transfer during the update of the voters’ register for Kyadondo East.

EC Deputy Spokesperson Paul Bukenya also expressed surprise at the development.

“I think the law is clear and okay; the EC provided opportunity for eligible persons to update their voting particulars in preparation for this by-election,” said Bukenya.

“If a person does not take advantage of the transfer window, then surely the problem is not the law,” he added.

It remains unclear how this development will impact FDC supporters considering that the candidate himself won’t participate in the exercise.
