Jinja Hippos Rugby Sevens team has scooped their maiden crown of the Rugby 7 Memorial Tournament that has just concluded in Kigali Rwanda.
The Hippos were invited for the tournament for the first time in their history and proved a hard nut to crack flying high to the finals registering only a single loss (in group stages) on the way.

According to the tournament’s rules, more about only players who turn for the clubs in the respective national league were supposed to play in the tourney.
The Buffaloes had earlier on beaten the Ugandan representatives 12-7 in the group stages. En route to finals, advice the Hippos outmuscled Kigali Sharks by a 28-7 margin in the semi-final to While Remera Buffaloes, who are also Rwanda national league champions, narrowly defeated last year’s champions and longtime fierce rivals Lion de Fer 7–5 in a tightly contested game.
Ugandan, George Okeno who was instrumental for Hippos route to the crown received the best player of the tournament award. The Hippos were under the tutelage of head coach Jonan Manzi.
“We could never be happier than this. We thank everyone who helped us financially, physically and spiritually. And we wouldn’t have done this without the belief we have in ourselves as a team,” an official statement from the club read.

The newly sworn-in party chairman, Amb. Waswa Birigwa also guaranteed to work tirelessly and ensure that the party gains more seats in parliament as well as on Local Council level.
“Am so privileged to be elected for my position and promise that am bringing on all the vast experience and will sell the party to the international community. I will traverse the entire country soliciting votes for all elective positions,” Birigwa added.
