Opposition Forum for Democratic Change have finally bowed to pressure and officially unveiled their appointed Leader of Opposition in Parliament.
The Leader of Opposition office had remained unoccupied after the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga rejected the names forward to her by the FDC’s Secretary General Nandala Mafabi, no rx http://coachypnose.fr/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/sal/class.json-api-site-jetpack.php for being wrongly tagged.
Nandala had initially named the Leader of Opposition Hon Winnie Kizza as the ‘Leader of Minority’ and The Opposition Chief Whip Hon Semujju Nganda as “The Chief Whip”
Kadaga while speaking at the second sitting of Parliament during the State of the Nation Address said Parliament’s Rules of Procedure did not recognize these positions and thus asked Hon Nandala to rectify these mistakes.
Nandala in a Monday June 6th Letter to the Speaker, properly named these tiles as “Leader of Opposition” and “Opposition Chief Whip”
“The party has taken note of your guidance in regard to our earlier communication,” he noted.
The opposition party has been entangled in the past weeks in a disagreement amongst its leaders on whether or not to appoint a Leader of Opposition.
One section holds doing so is accepting defeat in the February Presidential elections, which the party doesn’t.
FDC however, has now decided to let go of this position and proceed with the status quo.
Earlier, the ruling NRM party had warned that if FDC refused to appoint the Leader of Opposition, they would revise the constitution and give this office to an Independent MP.
