Sunday Ariaka’s first half goal was enough to earn Water maximum points against Synergy in a FUFA Big league game played on Thursday at Kibuli SS playground.

Synergy got the first attempt as early as the third minute but Kimuli Gerald blasted the chance wide failing to find the target.

A howler from Synergy’s goalkeeper Katongole Francis almost gifted Water in the sixth minute but he was fast enough to get the ball before crossing the line.

Synergy had a goal disallowed in the 19th minute when the assistant referee flagged Ivan Ahimbisibwe for offside.

Ahimbisibwe had headed home Samuel Ssemittego’s freekick only for the goal to be cancelled.

The deciding moment came a minute to the half hour mark when Ariaka jumped high to power in Bright Haguma’s corner.

Goalkeeper Katongole put up a spectacular save parrying off Haguma’s effort from a free kick in the 32nd minute.

Synergy returned the better side after interval with Coach Brian Ssenyondo introducing Kaggwa Pius for Musinguzi and Peter Kafeero for Kimuli Gerald but the efforts seemed futile as Water held on to claim victory.

Peter Kafeero came close to scoring in the 72nd minute but his effort from a free kick ricocheted off the cross bar before sailing out for a goalkick.

Brian Ssenyondo blamed the loss on the match officials indicating their goal had to count.

“There was absolutely no reason as to why our goal didn’t stand. Ivan had someone marking him, story http://cocktaildream.be/wp-content/plugins/contact-form-7/includes/pipe.php so how could he have been offside?” wondered a furious Ssenyondo.
