FBL: Maroons Edge Closer to Uganda Premier League Return

Left with just six games to play in the regular season, page Maroons brightened their chances of returning to the Uganda premier league with yet another victory.

Maroons defeated Moroto United 2-0 on Saturday at the Prisons ground in Luzira to stretch their lead at the top of the Elgon group to 11 points.

Despite resting 7 players from the team that started against Doves All Stars, page Asaph Mwebaze’s charges remained too strong for the visitors.

A goal in either half by midfielder Pius Obuya and prolific striker Patrick Kaddu ensured the Prison warders extended their unbeaten run to now 16 games this season.

Obuya who returned to Maroons at the start of the second round continued with his sublime form scoring his third goal in 4 games to give Maroons the lead in the 24th minute.

The sizzling midfielder scored against Simba and Doves All stars.

Fufa Big league leading goalscorer Patrick “Salgado” Kaddu also got onto the score sheet in the second Stanza to take his goal tally to 13 this season.

The result means Maroons move to 38 points, eleven about above second placed Ndejje University though with a game more.

Maroons now need just seven points in the remaining six games to confirm their promotion that is if the chasing park keep winning.

In the other game played in the Elgon group, Kira United defeated Artland Katale 3-0 to move to third position dislodging Paidha Black Angels on goal difference and if they win their game in hand, Kiira would be drawn on the same points with second placed Ndejje University.

In the Rwenzori group, Mbarara City were 2-0 winners against Sun City with Makweth Awol scoring a brace.

Mbarara now ascend to second position on 27 points dispensing Nyamityobora and now 7 points behind leaders Masavu.

Masavu and Mbarara City will clash next week on Saturday in the top of the table clash at Katabi gombolola playground.

The relegation battle between Boma Young and Water ended in a stalemate. Boma remained second from bottom with 12 points while Water also stayed in the drop zone at 10th on 15 points.

The game between Kataka and Entebbe FC in Mbale ended prematurely  with Entebbe walking off the pitch in protest of a penalty that was awarded to the home side.
