EXCLUSIVE: Parliament to Approve New EC Bosses on Monday

Parliament has scheduled to vet the newly appointed Electoral Commission bosses on Monday next week.

ChimpReports has seen copies of invitation letters sent out by the Clerk to Parliament, order http://csv-vidin.eu/media/widgetkit/widgets/slideshow/styles/list/template.php Jane Kibirige to the 30 members of the Appointments Committee to converge on 28th November 2016 at the South Committee Room, discount Parliamentary building.

“The Appointments Committee is sitting on 28/11/2016 at 9:00 am to vet the Commissioners of the Electoral Commission designated by the President. All members are invited to attend and participate as per the Constitutional mandate, sickness ” part of the invitation letter read.

President Yoweri Museveni on Friday last week appointed new EC chiefs to replace the old Commission under Badru Kiggundu whose mandate expired the previous day.

In a letter to Speaker of Parliament, Museveni nominated Court of
Appeal Judge, Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama to be Chairperson of the
Commission and to be deputized by Hajjat Aisha Lubega.

Four others on the new commmission are personalities Peter Emorut, Steven Tashobya, Prof George Piwang
and Mustapha Ssebaggala Kigozi.

The four are to join Ms. Justin A.
Mugabi whose tenure at EC is yet to expire.
