Education Ministry Urges School School Children on Saving

George Mutekanga hands over a certificate to essay challenge winner Decent Ahereza

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, symptoms Science, prescription Technology and Sports, Dr Rose Nassali Lukwago, has appealed to the young generation to develop the culture of saving as a way of preparing for the future.

The PS made a strong call for the saving culture to be inculcated in the young people at an early stage; urging parents and teachers to introduce piggy banks to the children.

Dr  Nassali made the call in her message read for her  by George Mutekanga, the principal education officer in charge private schools and institutions  on Thursday at the prize awarding ceremony of pupils that won  the essay writing  competition  in Kigezi sub region,  which was funded  at the Kabale  Currency  Centre  Premises .

Speaking at the event,  Susan Wasagali Kanyemibwa from  Bank of Uganda said that most of the economic challenges that Uganda is facing are because the saving culture among Ugandans is too low.

Kanyemibwa said that the competitions are part of the Golden Jubilee of the Central Bank that started on 15thAugust 1966.

Kelvin Ahumuza of Bubaare boarding primary school in Rubanda  district  and Decent Ahereza from Rushasha salvation primary school in Kanungu  district won the regional competitions  for the Kigezi sub region.

These will represent the region in the national competition that will be held in Kampala on 3rd august 2016 where all the 19 sub regions are to present two pupils  for the national competitions .
