EAUG 2016: Ndejje University Closing On Title Defense

Ndejje University Elites celebrate with the fans after defeating Kenyatta University to win gold on Monday.

Ndejje University is on course to claim the third straight Eastern Africa University games title as this year’s event comes to a close on Tuesday evening.

The defending champions go into the final action day leading the medals chart with a total of 76 medals; 33 Gold, store 17 silver and 26 Bronze medals.

The Ugandans maintained dominance in their traditional disciplines picking about 15 medals (6 Gold, 5 silver, 4 Bronze) in athletics, ten in wood ball, swimming, Taekwondo and Table tennis.

The team is assured of several medals on Tuesday with several of their squads in finals or semis. They include Soccer men who are in the last four playing against a less fancied Zanzibar University.

Ndejje’s teams assured of either Gold or silver include their handball (men and Women), basketball and Tae-Kwando (men and women). The netball team will tussle for the bronze medal in the third place playoff at midday.

Ndejje university won their maiden regional title in the eighth edition held in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania and went ahead to defend the 9th version hosted by the Uganda Christian University in Uganda.

Makerere had previously defended the title five times before 2012. Egerton University from Kenya is the only other side to have won the overall gong.
