President Museveni has made a shake-up in the intelligence community, more about http://dakarlives.com/wp-content/plugins/woocommerce/includes/class-wc-form-handler.php dropping the powerful External Security Organisation (ESO) boss, http://d4462130.u92.platformpublishing.com.au/wp-admin/includes/class-wp-filesystem-base.php Robert Masolo.
Masolo was replaced by Joseph Ocwet, Uganda’s former Ambassador to the African Union.
However, highly placed sources said Masolo was sent to Foreign Affairs Ministry awaiting deployment.
Museveni was expected to make changes in the intelligence community when he dropped army commander Gen Aronda Nyakairima and then Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi.
This was after an attack on Mbuya barracks by armed militants and fleeing of Gen David Sejusa into exile.
The reasons behind Masolo’s exit remain unclear.
He has served as Director General ESO for 8 years, having joined intelligence a few years after President Museveni seized power in 1986.
Nevertheless, there has been talk of intrigue, death threats and power struggles in ESO.
Masolo was reportedly appointed on the recommendation of Amama Mbabazi with whom they worked closely to thwart external threats against government.
“Masolo executed his assignments professionally. That’s why President Museveni kept him in such a sensitive position for so long,” said a source.
