District Chairman Accused Of Beating Up Female Councilor Faces Impeachment

A section of Dokolo district councilors are demanding for the resignation of Fredrick Odongo, information pills the LCV chairperson after he allegedly beat up one of their female colleagues.

The councilors warn that if the district chairperson does not voluntarily vacate office, story they will start collecting signatures intended to front a motion to impeach him.

Christopher Odwee the Dokolo sub county councilor says they are demanding that the district chairperson also offers a public apology to the Esther Betty Atoo, the Amwona sub county councilor whom he allegedly physically assaulted before tendering in his resignation.

Bata Sub county councilor Onyango Geoffrey says Odongo has shamed the entire political leadership in the district including councilors by taking matters into his hands and beating up their female colleague.

Onyango says by acting in such a crude manner, the district chairperson clearly indicated to councilors and the electorate that he is not fit to be holding such a high profile position.

The councilor also demands that Odongo foots all medical bills of the female councilor after she was rushed to hospital in a critical condition following the assault on her by the district chairperson.

Dokolo district women lawmaker Cecilia Ogwal has since joined voices against the assault calling for a special inquiry and for the errant district boss to face the courts of law.

Ogwal charges that chairperson’s action is a direct affront on the femine gender and demands that he faces punitive measures to deter other would be offenders from engaging in the same.

However the district chairperson rubbishes calls for him to vacate office daring councilors to begin the process for his impeachment.

Odongo contends that councilors should stop politicizing the issue but instead focus on more developmental matters describing the assault charge as flimsy.

North Kioga Police spokesperson Ongom David Mudong says a case of assault has been lodged against the district chairperson at Dokolo Central Police station vide SD/41/22/05/2017.

He says police have summoned the district chairperson to record a statement but he has since failed to show up despite acknowledging receipt.

He warns that the law enforcement body may run out of patience and move in to arrest Odongo if he continues to snub summons.

The development comes after Odongo Frederick; the district chairperson allegedly beat up into a coma, Esther Atoo during a works committee meeting at the district headquarters on 22 May 2017.

The district chairperson was reportedly infuriated by comments by the female councilor accusing him of poor leadership qualities and mismanaging the affairs of the district.

The allegedly assaulted councilor remains admitted at Dokolo Health centre IV.
