DEO Closes 100 Uncertified Schools In Mbarara

The Mbarara District Education Officer Gabriel Ahimbisibwe has closed dozens of private schools that were not certified to operate.

Invoking Section 31 of the Education Act of 2008, pills the DEO ordered immediate closure of 106 privately operated schools in Mbarara district.

In the DEO’s Friday communication to the affected school directors, he referred them to an earlier letter by the Chief Administrative Officer Felix Cuthbert Esoku dated January 10, 2017, which emphasized that the directors had been alerted in time to obtain the necessary requirements for their schools’ operation.

The DEO thus stressed that in accordance with the decision, no school without a valid license or registration certificate from the Ministry of Education and Sports will be allowed to operate as the new school term begins on Monday 6th.

The DEO strongly warned Parents and guardians to ask for an operating license before paying school dues.

He also directed sub county chiefs and the District Police Commander as government enforcement agencies to monitor and arrest individuals, communities and organizations that defy the orders.

School registration with the ministry is free of charge. The proprietor only has to show to government that the school has conducive infrastructure and space to be certified by the School Inspector, Health Inspector and National Environment Management Authority NEMA with financial bank statement.

Among the 106 closed schools include; Trust Care Katereza Rugando Primary School, Good Hope Primary school, Precious Preparatory School, Amazing Grace Kindergarten School, Young Stars Primary School, Rugando Modern Primary School, Bright Cares Kindergarten Nursery School, Excel Preparatory School, Jesus Care Akarungu Nursery School, Nyarubungo Parents School, Centenary Primary School, Bwengure Care Primary School, Rutoma Parents School, Bwizibwera Primary School, Global Primary School, Rubindi Town School and many others.
