Ronald Otile showed intent of winning the Tusker Malt Lager Uganda Amateur golf open for the third time in a row with a great performance on day one.
Otile returned a gross of 72 strokes to take the lead on day one as the 2017 Uganda open (Amateur) teed off at the Uganda golf course, Kitante on Wednesday.
Despite leading the chasing park with two strokes, Otile believes he did not have the best game and he is optimistic he can improve on day two.
“I did not expect to lead on day one because I struggled a bit at one time. The green had dew in the morning and that seemed to be a challenge to me,” he said.
“I know I can improve now that I will be playing in the afternoon, on the second day,” Otile noted.
The chasing park has five golfers all tied in second position on 72 strokes.
These include Denis Asaba, David Kamulindwa, Ismail Muhamood, Richard Baguma and Ashavin Kananathan.
Kenya’s Denis Saikwa is the only none Ugandan who had a slot in the top ten. He finished day one in 9th place with 75 strokes.
Action continues on Thursday for day two of the 2017 Tusker Malt Lager Uganda Amateur golf open.
Ronald Otile has won the previous two editions.
