The Nakawa Chief Magistrate James Ereemye Mawanda on Thursday fulfilled paid a visit to Luzira Prison to assess the condition of Dr Kizza Besigye’s.
Besigye who is remanded in the prison for treason had expressed concerns before the Nakawa court, ambulance http://concernedafricascholars.org/wp-content/plugins/gravityforms/preview.php that his life was endangered that his rights as a prisoner were being violated.
Besigye had also complained about the limitation put by prison authorities on his communication with the outside.
The opposition strongman asked court to compel the prison officials to allow him communicate to his supporters through messages because he is still a political leader.
Besigye said his recent efforts to write to Muslims wishing them a fruitful holy month of Ramadhan were frustrated by police and prison authorities who said he was not allowed to do so.
“I am innocent until proved otherwise and I ask prison authorities to let me communicate with my people at any time I want, shop ” he argued.
The Magistrate today led a team of officials from the Justice Law and Order Sector (JLOS) to Luzira prison to ascertain the allegations.
After this visit the Ereemye set the July 29th 2016 to release a report with findings on what the team discovered.
In his remarks after the visit, the magistrate noted that visiting Luzira prison was not intended to visit only some privileged prisoners but assessing the policies for all prison facilities.
