Court Dismisses Petition Against Cooperatives Minister Gume

The state Minister for Cooperatives Fred Ngobi Gume is all smiles after winning the electoral petition challenging his election as the Member of Parliament for the newly created Bulamogi North West Constituency in Kaliro district.

The Jinja High Court Judge Benjamin Kabiito while passing judgment in the electoral petition by a one Patrick Kasaija who contested against Gume dismissed it there by maintaining the latter’s victory.

In his ruling the judge said the petitioner failed to adduce sufficient evidence in court pinning Gume for having participated in electoral malpractices.

Kasaija had in the petition accused Gume of bribing voters with money and Vaseline that carried his campaign picture. He also cited intimidation and oppression of his voters at the hands of Gume and his camp.

While addressing reporters shortly after the ruling Gume could not hide his excitement and he pledged to work the development of Kaliro district, Busoga sub region and Uganda at large.
