State House said Museveni and Bashir “discussed issues aiming at boosting relations between their two countries.”

President Bashir welcomed President Museveni to Sudan and thanked him for responding to his invitation.

He said both Uganda and Sudan have a lot of things that bind them together adding that there is a multitude of issues that need response from African leaders.

“The government of Sudan seeks to open a new chapter with Uganda in improving their bilateral cooperation and joint efforts with regard to regional and international efforts in solving the conflict between South Sudan factions,” State House said in a statement.

President Museveni said Uganda is now peaceful and on the road to economic development, noting that the country had become a failed state.

He said that most of the issues in Africa originate from ideological point of view which should be addressed.

The two leaders also discussed other areas of cooperation especially trade and exchange of goods.

President Museveni was later hosted to a State Dinner at the Presidential Palace of Republic of the Sudan.

The President is accompanied by the Minister for Gender, Labour and Social Development Muruli Mukasa, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (Regional Affairs) Philemon Mateke and Uganda security officials.

Atleast seven people have perished and four others escaped critically wounded in an accident that occurred along the Kasese-Fort Portal road.

The accident happened on Tuesday evening at around 8:15pm at Igasa Valley that separates Rubona town council and Buheesi Sub County along Kasese-Fort Portal road.

It involved a FUSO lorry Reg.No.UAG 694T that was ferrying bananas from Bunyangabu County to Kampala.

“I will remember Aronda as a very patriotic intellectual, one of the people I helped to train and turn into good combatants in the 1981-1986 war,” said Mande.

“His loyalty to the NRM leadership (Museveni) was unequaled,” he added in an exclusive interview with ChimpReports on Wednesday.

Aronda, who served as army commander for a decade, died on a plane in Dubai on Sunday morning.

He was travelling from South Korea on official business.

Aronda’s body is expected to be brought home on Wednesday afternoon.

Mande said Aronda was “one of my trainees in the bush between 1983-1994.”

The exiled Colonel said he was the commanding officer of the Task force that oversaw Aronda’s training.

Asked to shed light on one Aronda’s successful battles, Mande cited the battle of Sanga near Matugga in 1983.

He said Aronda who was then a section commander performed extremely well to secure victory for NRA.

 Cabinet honours Aronda

Meanwhile, Cabinet held a special meeting on Tuesday to pay tribute to Gen Aronda, who passed away suddenly on 12 September and to receive a brief from the Task Force led by Defence Minister, Hon Dr Crispus Kiyonga, on the arrangements so far made for burial.

The Cabinet meeting was chaired by Prime Minister, Hon Dr Ruhakana Rugunda.

Dr Kiyonga informed Cabinet that Government had on Saturday 12 September 2015 dispatched a team of doctors led by the Chief of Medical Services in the UPDF, Dr James Makumbi, together with two family members, namely, Mr Henry Ngabirano and Mrs Jolly Ngabirano, to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to work with the authorities there to conduct investigations and to repatriate the body.

Cabinet acknowledged and saluted the significant contribution the late Gen Aronda made to the country’s stability and the unity of the people of Uganda.

Cabinet, however, noted that some elements of society, including some senior leaders in the country were using the tragic passing on of Gen Aronda, to spread falsehoods, negative and sectarian sentiments aimed at inciting and dividing the people of Uganda.

Cabinet strongly condemned such acts.

Cabinet approved the burial arrangement plans as follows:

Wednesday, 16th September 2015: Arrival of the body.

Thursday, 17th September 2015:    Body lies in State in Parliament for Members to pay tribute to the late Hon Gen Aronda.

Friday, 18th September 2015: Funeral service at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

Sunday 20th September 2015: Burial in Rukungiri.
