The Chief Justice Bart Katureebe has appointed Deputy Registrar, Vincent Emmy Mugabo as Judiciary’s new Public Relations Officer.
Mr Mugabo’s appointment takes immediate effect. He will be performing the new task alongside his other primary duties as deputy registrar in charge of the Mediation Registry at the High Court Commercial Division.
The changes were communicated to all staff on June 30th in an internal memo signed by the Judiciary Chief Registrar Paul Gadenya Wolimbwa.
Mugabo is expected to provide oversight over the judiciary public relations and communication unit and also take the lead role in the stakeholder engagements to explain court services to the public.
“Judiciary’s plan is to decentralise the Public Relations function to bring the judiciary to the people and also promote better understanding and relations between the courts and the public,” Mr Gadenya said.
The Chief Registrar said Judiciary’s ultimate objective is to Increase levels of transparency and openness in the administration of justice through provision of real time information to the public.
Mugabo replaces Elias Kisawuzi, who the Chief Justice expressed his gratitude together with deputy Harriat Ssali for the services they rendered to the to the Judiciary.
Kisawuzi retains the office of the Registrar, Research and Training at the Judicial Studies while Mrs Ssali will continue as Ag Registrar Court of Appeal/International Crimes Division
